8th Grade Promotion Requirements

In the Westminster School District, 8th graders need to earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 2.0 or above in order to earn a diploma.  A combined GPA of 1.5 – 1.9 will earn a student a certificate of attendance and an opportunity to participate in the promotion ceremony. Students with a combined GPA below a 1.5 are not eligible to participate in the promotion or promotion activities.

For the 2021-2022 school year, there will be two options for the calculation of your child’s GPA.  The school will use whichever option will result in the highest cumulative GPA.

  • The first option is a cumulative GPA that will include all three 7th grade trimester GPAs and all three 8th grade trimester GPAs.
  • The second option is based only on grades during their 8th grade year (all 3 trimester grades).  If a student can earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above this year, they will be eligible to earn a diploma.
